Just as he was getting back with Irene, he got caught out. So Hyde shot Josh West over half the school being taken away with project 56.

He didn't shoot Josh because of the school he went to confront Josh about the school but Josh showed him incriminating evidence that he had which proved that he killed his wife Kerry. Josh tried to blackmail him into publically supporting Project 56 but Hyde sai he would take his punishment and not be blackmailed by him but Josh played his trump card and threateded to report Kim for conceiling the crime and Hyde knew that Kim would go to prison for covering it up, so tried to snatch the files back. Josh grabbed Martha's stolen gun from his drawer and there was a struggle and Josh was shot Hyde did not intentionally kill him.
