Hardman actor Ray Winstone has become Weatherfield’s Most Wanted Man. Corrie chiefs are apparently desperate for him to take a star role as part of a massive shake-up of the soap.
The Sexy Beast star has been earmarked to play mechanic Tyrone's tough-guy dad Darren, who’s due on screen later this year and intent on causing mayhem. “The money is there to make Ray soap’s best-paid actor. It’s a tempting offer and Ray is giving it serious consideration,” an insider revealed. “EastEnders proved that violent characters like the Mitchell brothers make great drama.”
Ray will be following in the footsteps of fellow film hardman Phil Daniels, who makes his soap debut this week as Albert Square’s Kevin Wicks.
Meanwhile, the Street’s new producer Steve Frost is giving out strong hints that several existing characters could be killed off in a dramatic Weatherfield disaster. “In Coronation Street there is room for spectaculars and deaths,” warns Steve. “We need to be bold so that Corrie is here in 45 years’ time”.
