Ivan rescues Paul
Sunday, 1st January 2006

Ivan and Paul head off together to collect Ivan’s belongings from his ex-wife Jordan. Jordan assumes the pair are an item and begins to laugh at at them. Paul returns to the van to find a group of youths spraying homophobic taunts on the van. He stands up to the group but panics when he realises he is outnumbered. Ivan comes to Paul’s rescue and confirms he is indeed his boyfriend. How will Paul react to this?

Elsewhere, Viv is surprised when Bob announces that his new year’s resolution is to regain contact with his many children. Viv tries to dismiss the idea as she is jealous that on finding his children they will mean more to him than she or Donna.

Paul can't understand Ivan's reasoning
Monday, 2nd January 2006

Paul and Ivan begin to get friendly at Mill Cottage, but are interrupted by Nicola. Paul struggles to understand why Ivan wants to keep their relationship quiet. After a heart to heart Ivan admits he has never been in a relationship with a bloke, and reckons Paul doesn’t know how hard it is for him to come to terms with. An understanding Paul agrees to keep the relationship under wraps, but how long will he be able to do this for?

Elsewhere, Viv wants to make Bob happy as he has been so accommodating with all her wedding ideas. Val tries to persuade Viv that the perfect way would be to get Josh and Carly to attend the wedding. Will Viv call their mother Barbara?

Meanwhile, after more taunting from Jimmy, Matthew drowns his sorrows over Sadie in the Woolpack. A concerned Edna tries to cheer him up, but Matthew shuts her down and insists he is fine.

Viv and Val meet Barbara
Tuesday, 3rd January 2006

In the evening, Thelma Louise takes to the stage of the Woolpack and rather inappropriately makes snide remarks about her new lover. Ivan later informs Paul that Thelma Louise’s behaviour has ruined their chance of a relationship. As they return to the bar and see all eyes on them, Diane reveals that Thelma Louise’s radio mic has picked up the whole conversation. How will Ivan react to being publicly outed and how will the rest of the village react to the new couple?

Meanwhile on Barbara’s doorstep, Viv is getting nowhere when Val decides a more radical approach is needed. She tells Barbara it is literally the last chance Bob may get to see his children again, as he is going blind. Viv is angry but will she stick to Val’s story?

Elsewhere, after Turner receives a mysterious silent phone call he is shocked to find out that Betty has been in touch with his son Terrence. Is the mystery caller Terrence and will he return the call?

Betty is troubled by last night’s mystery caller and decides to call the number back. She discovers it is in fact the Salvation Army in Hull. Worried Betty tells Turner. She reminds him that if he doesn’t act now he will always wonder ‘what if?’, and so the two of them head off to Hull. Terrence covers his shame at living in a hostel by angrily having a go at Turner for turning up unannounced. Will Terence and his estranged father be able to reconcile their differences, or has 20 years been too long?

Meanwhile, Paul’s attempts to reconcile with Ivan are stopped short when Ivan is firm he now wants to keep his private life private. Paul heads to the pub to drown his sorrows and finds a friendly ear in the unlikeliest person.

Elsewhere, when Simon and Lesley return to the village, Simon is annoyed to see Nicola with shopping bags and a row ensues. Reeling from their argument, Simon turns on Lesley and blames her for his and Nicola’s troubles.

Paul tries to make amends
Thursday, 5th January 2006

Turner and Terence go for a drink and an edgy Terrence insists on a soft drink. The situation proves awkward and recognising the signs Turner asks Terrence if he has a drinking problem. He admits he did have but is now on the road to recovery, however he has lost both his wife and job in the process. As Turner leaves he makes it clear he wants to keep in touch with his son, but will Terrence agree?

Elsewhere, Paul is still trying to make amends with Ivan, and Kelly suggests Nicola may be able to persuade Ivan to join Paul for a meal. Uneasy about playing cupid, Nicola demurs but Paul insists. A reluctant Nicola heads off to ask Ivan, but will she go through with it?

Lesley, with Simon’s cruel words ringing in her ears, is determined to make a difference and heads off to the factory to ask for a job. How will Simon react to his mother’s attempts to help and, more importantly, how will Nicola?

Sam and Alice attend a baby scan
Friday, 6th January 2006

Turner admits to a stunned Steph that he’s seen Terrence. Explaining how Terrence has fallen on hard times, Turner says how he would like to invite him to the village to re-establish their relationship. Steph is upset and leaves. Sensing Steph’s reluctance, Betty questions Turner. He is clearly emotionally exhausted; will he confess to Betty?

Paul is still upset over his dinner disaster and Kelly urges him to call Ivan. Will Paul take Kelly’s advice or is he ready to call it a day?

Elsewhere, Sam and Alice attend a baby scan and are concerned when they are informed the baby is quite small. Sam then quizzes the ultrasonographer on the baby’s sex. Are the Dingles to have a new male or female member?
