Peter turns up at the scene where Matilda’s bag was found. Beth is beside herself with worry and Scott checks the surrounding area. Meanwhile, Callan is rushed into hospital with the injuries Ric gave him. Flynn is shocked by Ric’s behaviour, but Ric thinks Callan deserved everything he got.
Cassie’s at the Surf club having a drink when Alf comes in with Martha and Ric in tow. Alf’s getting a few guys organised for the search. Jesse wants to be part of the team. Alf’s not keen but begrudgingly needs his help. Ric tries to explain to Beth he was only trying to protect Matilda, but Beth dismisses him.

Flynn asks Callan if he knows where he is and what happened? Callan is a bit blurry for a moment but then it all comes flooding back – it was Ric! He beat me! He wants Flynn to call the police. Flynn tries to calm him down but Callan insists on pressing charges!

Alf works with Jesse to organise the search area they need to cover – the SES is working alongside the police. Ric comes over and tells Alf he wants to go, but Alf knocks the idea on the head. He’s not trained. Ric argues, but Alf is firm – sorry mate. Alf mans the radios and Beth makes herself useful – organising coffees and biscuits. Cassie can see how deeply affected Ric’s been by all of this; he’s defensive and angry. Meanwhile, Flynn finally picks up the phone to call the police. It’s the hardest phone call he has ever had to make…when, Nurse Julie approaches he’ll never believe what they found in Callan’s clothing...

Henry opens up to Beth about the psychic connection between twins, but the thing is, he can’t feel anything – and it scares him. Henry’s words almost kill Beth but she stays strong and does her best to comfort him. Peter arrives – looking exhausted after the search. He reports that someone at the party saw Matilda get into a car. Beth’s face falls – has she been abducted?

Cassie makes Beth realise just how naughty Matilda has been, how she’s been heading for trouble for a while and how Ric has been trying to stop her. Beth starts to realise just how much she’s lost touch as a mother. Meanwhile, Ric goes to the hospital and tells Callan if he sees him again, he’ll kill him! Terrified, Callan’s left shaking.

The police arrive at the hospital and Flynn holds up a small vial of liquid (Rohypnol). It seems Callan was not the innocent victim in this situation after all… But when they open the door to Callan’s room, they discover Callan is no longer there… He’s done a runner!

Alf is on the radio to Scott. They’ve searched about half way up Turner’s lane but so far have found nothing. Alf reckons it’s time they took a break and let another team take over, but Scott refuses. Then they spot something in the distance. They all run towards it… but Scott stops with a halt as he looks down at the grim discovery…

Beth’s heartened that they’ve found something, but when Peter pulls out the jacket they found in the bush, it’s got blood on it. Beth confirms that it is her daughters but is horrified at the sight of the blood. Scott and Robbie do their best to support her but Beth simply turns and walks out.... On the beach, her legs virtually buckle from under her. Has she lost her daughter forever?

Tuesday 29th November 2005 - Episode 3982
Ric’s fury gets the better of him and he is lashing out. Cassie feels powerless and starts crying, begging Ric to stop… but he doesn’t.Beth returns from the beach. She’s closed down now, completely insular and quiet. All Beth wants to do is comfort Robbie and Henry, who are also despondent and quiet. Tasha rushes in and joins them. Scott’s sitting alone. Hayley spots him and approaches. The awkwardness between them before this tragedy is not important now. Henry finally snaps – he wants everyone to stop acting like Matilda’s gone, she’s not! His ranting continues as his anger gives way to tears. Beth holds him as he cries.

Peter reveals there’s been a report of a young girl being taken in to a house on Kingsbury Road. Jesse, Martha and Scott are heartened by the news and Scott immediately wants to get out there. Alf tries to calm them down – but his words are useless as they head out the door. When he gets off the phone, Peter is furious that the guys have rushed off and quickly races off after them…

Scott and the others approach the house. Impatient, Scott breaks a small window so he can reach in and open the front door, but there’s no sign of Matilda and the shack appears to be empty. Peter tells him there’s no evidence Matilda was even here. A fifty-something man, Terry Rawlings, returns to the house, surprised to find the police have broken in. Scott has to be pulled off the bemused Terry, who wants to know what the hell is going on?! Peter takes Terry into the station for questioning and he denies knowing anything about Matilda. Peter has no choice but to let Terry go.

Meanwhile, Matilda wakes up in a dingy looking shed. She calls out ‘hello’ but there’s no response. She tries the door and windows but they’re locked. Fear sets in as Matilda realises she’s trapped! She attempts to force the window open, becoming increasingly frustrated as everything she tries fails. She’s about to give up when she sees something out the window – it’s Scott, Jesse and the others. Matilda calls out at the top of her lungs – but Scott and the others are too far away to hear. Matilda’s hopes are crushed as she watches her rescuers walking away!

Scott appreciates Hayley’s support and comments on how glad he is to have her. He reckons it’s a wise move to put all that other stuff behind them. Hayley goes quiet and Scott picks up on it, asking her if she still want to take a break? Hayley prevaricates – but it’s clear she does. Angry, Scott storms out. Hayley calls after him… but Scott keeps going. Hayley is left deflated.

Matilda is sitting, curled up on the bed, crying to herself…when she hears a rattle at the door. Matilda reacts – and looks up to see the door handle starting to turn. Someone’s coming in – she looks across in fear… what will she do? Matilda’s hiding behind on old lounge chair as the mystery person moves in to the room. Despite her fear, she peers out to see a man. It’s Terry! He calls out to her – where are you? I won’t hurt you… Matilda’s scared. After a moment, as Terry gets closer, Matilda bursts from her hiding spot, knees him in the crotch, and runs from the house... Terry hot on her heels....

Peter’s in charge and Scott is in a foul mood with everyone. Jesse pulls him up - he knows Scott’s worried about Matilda but he doesn’t have the right to bite people’s heads off. Matilda sprints out of the thick scrub onto a main road. There are no cars, but she reaches a phone booth and jumps inside… She starts to dial home, then stops and dials another number. Ric answers his mobile phone and is shocked to hear Matilda on the other end! Matilda’s frantic and panicky as she tells Ric she’s being chased. Ric tells her to stay where she is – they’re on their way! Martha pulls the car over by the phone booth and Ric calls out for Matilda. There’s a noise in the dense scrub nearby, as Matilda appears, a little cut and scratched up, but in one piece.

http://backtothebay.net/comingsoon/05_11_28_04.jpg

Ric rushes over to her and they hug. Cassie watches the closeness between them. Beth, Robbie, Henry and Tasha rush into the hospital and Cassie explains Matilda is being treated. Immensely relieved, Beth turns to Ric, wondering why Matilda called him. Ric shrugs – he doesn’t know... Cassie takes this in curious about the same thing. Beth holds Matilda tight, as she cries in her arms, telling Beth she’s sorry. She’s been so stupid. They’re interrupted by the arrival of Peter, who comes in saying that they no longer have to worry about Terry Rawlings, they’ve got him. It turns out his daughter died years ago and he never got over it… even lost his wife as a result. Evidently, as Matilda was the same age he saw her as some kind of replacement.

Hayley catches up with Scott, expressing her relief over Matilda, but Scott’s cold towards her. She’s sorry it has to be this way but until Scott can prove to her that he is handling things – maybe a break is what they need. Scott looks up at Hayley and says – you done? Hayley just nods and Scott moves off. Hayley can’t believe things have turned out like this…

Diesel makes one last attempt to talk Sally around – if she would just tell him the truth- that she loves him, he’ll drop all the allegations. But Sally won’t say the words Diesel wants to hear. And she thinks he’s deluded if he really thinks she felt that way. Dark, Diesel walks off.

Ric comes in to say goodbye to Matilda. As he leans in to kiss her goodbye on the cheek, she happens to turn her head a little – and their lips brush. Their eyes meet for a second then they pull away, both trying to ignore the awkward moment.

Leah’s finally decided on a dress and the girls are pleased! That’s until, her mum Helen, arrives denouncing her dress of choice. Leah’s bites her tongue already – batten down the hatches, with her mum in town - Leah’s wedding plans are in for a bumpy ride!

Diesel breaks in to the Summer Bay House with Sally’s necklace – the one that he stole. He’s about to leave when Ric and Cassie arrive home. Diesel panics and rushes upstairs…just avoiding being seen by Sally, who comes in the front door. Ric and Cassie go out and thinking she’s alone in the house, Sally spots the washing and carries it upstairs… to where Diesel is hiding!

Thursday 1st December 2005 - Episode 3984
Diesel is still hiding under Sally’s bed, as Sally sorts through the washing. She drops something and reaches down to grab it, narrowly avoiding seeing Diesel…

Helen is on Leah’s back about her choice of wedding dress – she can’t believe she’s agreed to wear that! Leah’s tries to argue her point but it’s not easy with Helen. Helen thinks it’s a good thing she’s here, she doesn’t want Leah making any more decisions like this. Helen’s not pleased – there’s no mention of anything Greek in the wedding – but before she gets a chance to say anything more, there’s a knock at the door. Dan opens the door his mother, Noelene, who’s dressed in a new-age, hippy outfit. Helen looks this strange woman up and down.

Sally comes down the stairs and into the kitchen. Diesel sees this as his chance to escape. He races down the stairs and runs from the house. Diesel is gone. Meanwhile, Carl Summons, the no-nonsense Department of Education investigator, has returned for a final round of talks with Diesel. Hyde praises Sally and makes it clear how hard this has been on her and the school, but Diesel tells Summons that yesterday Miss Fletcher threatened him. Diesel has spun more lies about Sally. Summons asks if there’s anything else he thinks they should know? When pressed, he “reluctantly” reveals that there is something else. He didn’t want to say anything because it was so special to them…but now he realises that he has to be honest. Hyde and Summons visit Sally at home. Summons demands to see her locket. Inside it, there’s a photo of Diesel. Shocked, Sally defends her innocence, but Summons’ mind is made up. Sally is sacked and given the circumstances (Diesel is sixteen) he will be referring this matter to the police. Sally’s crushed.

Noelene is filling in Dan and Leah about her new ‘life change’. She’s into Yoga and meditation – all the new age stuff. Dan wonders what Dad thinks of it but Noelene changes the subject and starts chatting to Helen – who’s still slightly wary. As Noelene rabbits on, we see Helen slowly being won over by this weird woman. Dan nudges Leah - see, told you not to worry! Then talk turns to the wedding and Helen is outraged by Noelene’s suggestions. The women start to bicker. Leah shoots a look at Dan – you were saying…

Sally tells her side of the story to the police, but they are not convinced. When Constable Fitzgerald is on her way out, she tells Sally they will be investigating her claims about Diesel thoroughly – but Flynn and Sally both know that Diesel has got them stitched up. Hyde finds Diesel and tells him he’s not going to let him get away with this. Diesel is smug and reckons Hyde can’t touch him but there’s something in Hyde’s tone which leaves Diesel’s seriously rattled…

The mums start bickering again and Dan takes the opportunity to leave, joining a weary Leah at Diner - they’re nightmares. Both of them! Leah’s fears have materialised – this is exactly what she didn’t want. They’re going to ruin their special day. What are they going to do?!

Sally goes upstairs to check on Pippa and is stunned to find Diesel standing there, Pippa in his arms. Sally’s shocked and fearful – Please give me my daughter! But Diesel is hard and cold – no – it’s just going to be you, me and Pippa or I’ll hurt her…

Friday 2nd December 2005 - Episode 3985
Scared to death, Sally tries to talk Diesel down. She starts to move closer to him, eventually trying to reach out for Pippa. Seriously unstable, Diesel yells at her to stay back! He knows how much Sally wants Pippa… surely now she can understand what it’s like to want something so bad, but not to be able to get it. All Sally had to do was say she loved him and this could have all been avoided. Sally fights back her fear…

Scott’s come into the Surf Club to see Alf. There’s a big problem with the Blaxland and they’ve got their biggest booking in weeks that afternoon – a singles charter. Josie overhears and offers to help organise a replacement venue for him at the Surf Club. Meanwhile, Leah and Dan take a deep breath then re-enter the house. Noelene and Helen immediately front them. They need Dan and Leah to help them make a few decisions for the wedding. Dan and Leah realise this little problem is not going to go away!

Sally’s still trying to talk to Diesel, but the tension is broken as her mobile starts to ring. It’s Flynn. Sally explains that Flynn will suspect something is wrong if she doesn’t answer. Diesel relents and Sally picks up the phone. Trying to control the fear in her voice, she says something incongruous. Flynn’s bemused, but when he hangs up, he realises that something is wrong … Meanwhile, Diesel’s becoming increasingly unstable. As he looks at Pippa, he tells Sally’s she going to have to pay.

http://backtothebay.net/comingsoon/05_11_28_05.jpg

Everything is set up and the singles are arriving. Scott and Josie are giving out a bolt to all the blokes and a nut to all the girls. The matching pairs dictate partners for the night. Alf comes in and congratulates them on a job well done. Hayley comes over to talk about the drinks, Scott gets defensive and a small argument breaks out between them.

Sally sees Flynn appear in the doorway behind Diesel. He indicates to her to keep Diesel talking… Sally does so, giving Flynn enough time to sneak up behind Diesel and restrain him, as Sally grabs Pippa. The police arrive and take Diesel away. Later, Harper tells Sally and Flynn that Diesel has admitted to framing her. He had a spare key cut from when he was staying with them and let himself in and out of the house the whole time. This sends a shiver down Sally’s spine… but there’s also a great sense of relief that it’s all over.

The party is finishing up and the singles are heading home. Scott thanks Josie for her help. He looks down and notices that he still has his bolt – never did find the girl who it fitted. Josie still has her nut as well – and surprise, they discover that Josie’s nut fits Scott’s bolt. The laughter quickly subsides and Josie stares at Scott with desire. It gets awkward and Scott pulls away. Later, Scott walks along the beach, alone and confused, his mind on Hayley. He still loves her so much. On a different part of the beach, Hayley walks sadly, her mind on Scott – all the plans they had for the future together seem impossible now.

Helen wants Greek music at the wedding and to keep the peace Dan agrees. Leah’s gets upset that Dan’s changing his mind just to suit Helen and Leah and Dan end up bickering as a result… However, they quickly come to their senses. This isn’t how they want things to be. Fed up with situation, Dan comes down for breakfast all thoughtful. All they wanted was something simple, right? Leah doesn’t understand what Dan is getting at? Dan smiles - let’s elope. Leah stunned.
