Hayley and Scott are enjoying each others company after he nearly went to the city with Lisa. Scott apologises to Hayley for the way he treated her and admits it was pride that got in the way. Now…he just wants to be with her. Full stop. But he’s dreading having to face the family again.
Dan’s trying to get the Weber barbecue going and not having much luck as Leah brings home the invitations to the wedding – fresh from the printers. Ryan is not happy at all – especially when he finds there’s no invitation for his Mum! Later, when he’s alone with VJ, he grabs some matches and throws the wedding invitations in the bin and lights it up. The only problem is that once the fire is out, VJ manages to put his hand in the ashes and burn himself. His screams alert Leah, and she is beside herself when she realises what happened and that Ryan did it. She rushes VJ to hospital.
Kim comes home to find Scott and Hayley snuggling up and says he’s glad they sorted things out. Scott remarks that it’s lucky things didn’t end up going too far between Kim and Hayley. Kim and Hayley force a smile but we see them share a look – they’re hiding a secret. When Hayley gets a moment alone with Kim she asks if he thinks they should tell Scott. Kim is against the idea. She wasn’t with Scott when they slept together. He doesn’t think she should rock the boat when she hasn’t done anything wrong. She decides to take his advice. Later on, the romance continues when Scott tells her they’re going on a surprise date, but won’t reveal any details – just that she has to dress up.
Robbie’s commercial shoot is coming up soon and he’s got a meeting with the company representative. Robbie thinks it’s going to be some kind of funky streetwear product, but that gets cancelled and instead they want to use him to be the face of the Yabbie Creek Donut Hut! Despite incredible ribbing from Kim and Tasha, Robbie doesn’t care, he thinks he’s going to be a star, and his head is starting to swell at a huge rate.
Hayley tells Leah that her and Scott feel perfect together, no awkwardness etc – just as she hoped. Meanwhile Scott is explaining to his family why he’ll be staying, and they’re all glad. He apologises to Beth for his attitude towards her, but he acted that way because she was hitting the nail on the head and he didn’t want to admit it.
VJ’s hand will be okay, but Leah is furious with Ryan, and Dan is very disappointed. Ryan feels terrible. He tries to apologise to his Dad later that night, but Dan sends him to his room and Ryan snaps. Dan is hurt but stands his ground. Later, Ryan again tries to tell Dan how sorry he is. Dan understands, but explains that his actions have really disappointed him, and sends him back to bed. Ryan feels so awful that later on that night, he sneaks out with his backpack on, and leaves the house. He’s running away from home!
Ryan has run away after the telling off Dan gave him the night before. Dan and Peter head off to search for the child and Dan fields a call from an irate Amanda demanding to know why her son is missing. Peter manages to calm her down (much to Dan’s chagrin), and the two of them split up. Peter finds him down by the boat wharf and convinces him that his Dad is never going to get back with Amanda, and most importantly, Leah makes Dan incredibly happy – they’re in love. Ryan is finally persuaded to come home.

Jesse is back in town and Hayley tries to broach how much Josie’s been missing him, but Jesse wants nothing to do with it. When Josie tries to talk to him later on, he wants nothing to do with her either - leaving Josie frustrated. After another thwarted attempt to talk to him, she finally snaps that he can’t keep playing games with her. She storms out, challenging him to be a man and tell her what he really wants. The look on Jesse’s face shows her words have hit home.
Jesse tells Hayley he’s found the perfect partner for the bar – Alf! He’s just back in the Bay after a stint in the USA and he’s realised it’s very important for him to be busy. Hayley thinks it’s great. “Welcome aboard, partner!”
When Ryan gets home he breaks down in front of Leah and Dan and pleads that he never meant too hurt VJ. Leah holds him in her arms – accepting his apology. There’s a new understanding between Ryan and Leah. Later on, Dan tells Leah that he felt a bit jealous of Peter’s ability to handle Amanda AND Ryan so much better than him. Leah assures him it’s natural that his relationship with Ryan will always be different to Peter’s because he has to do all the unpopular ‘Dad’ things.
Hayley’s trying to work out what Scott’s got planned for their big date that evening. But he’s giving nothing away. Later on that day at sunset, he takes her to the Flat Beach where a waiter serves them dinner and champagne. Under those romantic circumstances, a passionate kiss is de rigeur. And then comes the piece de resistance – Scott has organised a string quartet to play for them so they can dance! Hayley is blown away. And when they get back to her place that night, try as they might, they can’t abide by their rule to take things slowly. The next morning Scott wakes up in Hayley’s bed and with the sun streaming through the window, the two of them profess their love for each other.
Now that things have changed with Leah, Ryan doesn’t want to leave Summer Bay! But he has to, and as a parting gift, he makes replacement wedding invitations for the ones he destroyed. It’s a touching apology and a sign of acceptance of Dan and Leah’s marriage.
Jesse passes Josie on a morning jog and decides to have it out with her. He tells her he loves her, and for a second Josie thinks he wants her back, but then he crushes all that hope by telling her that it’s not enough. There will always be a part of him that suspects she might betray him again and for that reason it will never work. Two people who love each other but cannot be together. This is goodbye. Josie is left devastated.

Ric’s upset when he finds out Alf arrived back from the USA the day before and didn’t even say hello! Flynn and Sally hope this is isn’t the re-emergence of Ric’s grudge against Alf. Alf sees Ric at the Surf Club and tries to explain his absence. He says he didn’t know what kind of reception he’d get. He starts to talk about a ‘surprise’ he’s got, but Ric walks away in disgust. Cassie takes him out for a cheer-up game of ‘Dodge the Pedestrian’ on her bike. It turns into a nasty game of ‘Chicken’ when they almost collide with a young girl. Ric and the girl have a nasty spat and that’s where it seems to end…
Meanwhile, Robbie is continuing to big-note himself over the commercial he’s starring in.
Kim is happy his relationship with Zoe is going much better since she got the message to slow down. He’s a bit worried that Zoe might be uncomfortable hanging with younger friends, but Zoe assures him she’s not. Tasha’s still reluctant about being in the pageant – only doing it because she feels she owes Colleen for nursing her during the plane crash.
Colleen’s trying to drum up entrants in the Miss Groper Pageant, but is getting a mass of excuses. Same goes for her attempts to get them to help her with fundraising ideas. Finally she comes up with the idea of a murder/mystery afternoon. She goes over to Sally’s to ask if it’s appropriate (given what’s happened with Noah and all the stalker ruckus). Sally thinks people know the difference between a play and reality.
But Sally herself is acting very strangely since her accident - locking all the doors and being too scared to venture outside. She’s only just holding it together. When Alf comes over to say hello, she breaks down in his arms and reveals her inner fears for the first time: one part of her says the fall was just accident – the other just can’t help wondering if an intruder caused it. It’s turning her into a recluse in her own home! Alf finally introduces his ‘surprise’ to Ric. It’s the girl Ric and Cassie ran over on their bike! Her name is Martha, and she’s Alf’s Granddaughter! (Roo’s 18-year old daughter - adopted out long ago) She’s come to live in the Bay. Ric’s reaction isn’t exactly welcoming, leaving Alf frustrated. Everything he tries with the boy comes to naught!
The tension is still simmering between Matilda and Cassie, and Cassie wants to know why.
