Phil’s car is parked outside Eileen’s and a livid Gail tells Sarah that Eileen must have thrown herself at him, and made him leave his car outside so that she would know.

Meanwhile, over at the Grimshaws’, Jason also thinks Phil stayed the night and Eileen doesn’t tell him otherwise. She and Sean spin a yarn about her nighttime antics which leaves Jason disgusted and embarrassed at his mum. Later on in the Rovers, Gail gives Phil the cold shoulder as he chats to Eileen. Tensions boil over after he leaves, and they confront each other - both vowing to fight for ‘their’ man.

In the Kabin, Rita gets fed up with Norris chuntering on about what a dead end his life has turned into, and goes upstairs for forty winks. He comes back later and finds Gail shouting at Jason about his family, and goes to get Rita from her flat to come and watch. But Norris gets a nasty shock which forces him rethink his future.

And over in the salon, Maria teases a wistful, fluttery Audrey about Keith. They go for a casual date at the Rovers but it is clear that Audrey finds him attractive.

Charlie tells Shelley that the therapist he has booked will arrive at midday, but in the meantime he continues to lay it on thick to Violet about Shelley’s mental health. When Zack arrives, he gently suggests that Charlie leaves them alone, which he does, reluctantly. Shelley is soon at ease with her therapist and admits that she gets very frightened in certain situations. Zack is very reassuring with Shelley and their first session goes well. But on his way out of the Rovers he is met by Charlie who demands to know exactly what Shelley said. Will Zack break Shelley’s confidentiality?

Gail is still smarting after her run-in with Eileen over Phil. She gets herself so worked up that she decides she is going to report him to the practice manager for being unprofessional and fraternizing with one of their patients. Will Phil lose his job?

Over in the Rovers, Mike bonds with Jamie while Danny is away. He confides in Penny that he would love to slip Jamie some money every now and again to help him out like he does with Adam, but knows that this would look suspicious.

And also in Weatherfield, Adam has a ‘boring’ haircut for his driving test, and Candice informs him she doesn’t find him remotely attractive!

Charlie continues to try to find out from Shelley what she discussed with Zack. Shelley says that she thought Zack was nice and Charlie homes in on this, and tells her he is not paying for her to just ‘have a bit of company.’ Then, later on in the evening, Charlie’s nose is put even further out of joint when Violet lets it slip that Zack is coming back to drop some tapes off for his patient. When he arrives, Shelley tells him she wants to try and do one of the tasks he has set for her. Does she manage to go outside or does poorly Shelley have another panic attack?

Sean has Eileen excited by booking a foot massage with Phil. When Gail find out about this she is livid and demands that her boss have another word with him. But during her foot massage, Eileen can’t help but stir things up by telling Phil that Gail used to be married to a serial killer!

After Audrey mentions that Adam has a lucrative career ahead of him, fickle Candice decides he is the man for her. She eyes him up in the Rovers, and it’s not long until the two are getting flirty.

Seeing that Zack has started to change Shelley, Charlie feels like he is loosing control over his girlfriend. During another session Zack starts to get to the core of Shelley’s problems, such as why her confidence is shattered and why she hates going out. The session gets emotionally charged as Shelley begins to break down and Charlie interrupts by wandering in and earwigging. She continues telling Zack her innermost feelings and both men are moved by her obvious distress. Charlie is upset by Shelley’s suffering and tries to turn the situation around by proposing. Will a stunned Shelley accept?

Phil has a go at Gail for snitching on him to his boss. He denies any relationship with Eileen and tells Gail he wants nothing to do with her. Audrey advises Gail to apologise to him but she bumps into Eileen outside the corner shop. Again the blood boils between both women and a bitter exchange of words ensues!

Adam sets off for his driving test, after Candice gives him a good luck teddy. Adam passes with flying colours and later, in the Rovers, Mike takes the mick out of Ken when he gives him £500 for a car.

Kelly and Lloyd get on very well on their date in The Clock, but the situation turns sour when Kelly bumps into a face from her past.

Sunday, 28th August
When Cilla starts to nag Les about getting her the ‘ring of her dreams ‘ he gets a few ideas. First of all he visits the Platts and casually asks Gail if he can buy one of her many engagement rings for £10. Gail is disgusted and throws him out. Then he visits the local police station and tells them that his fiancée has lost her ring and hopes that it has been handed in. The helpful police sergeant brings a tray of rings for Les to scrutinize, and he picks out the biggest diamond, saying it belongs to Cilla. The policeman then immediately arrests Les because that ring was stolen and found on a man who gave the police the slip a few weeks ago! How will Les get out of this sticky situation?

Elsewhere, Adam gains a car but looses Candice. He buys a car at the auction and asks Candice to go for a drive in the country. She isn’t very impressed when he buys her a cheap bunch of flowers and is even more annoyed when the car breaks down.

News travels fast around the street that Shelley and Charlie are to marry. Violet, Betty and Bev are all shocked when they hear the announcement.

Elsewhere Kelly confides in Lloyd that she had a painful and troubled childhood, and once spent time in a young offenders institution.

Sunday, 28th August
Its Les’s 50th birthday but his day gets off to a bad start when a stony faced Cilla informs him that she hasn’t got him a birthday present or card because he still has not bought her an engagement ring. Determined to placate his fiancée, Les sets about trying to raise the cash needed to buy Cilla the ring of her dreams. He approaches some of Weatherfield’s well-heeled residents hoping for a loan but his pleas fall on deaf ears. It looks like it’s going to be a 50th birthday to forget unless unlucky Les can raise the cash for Cilla’s sparkler.

Elsewhere, feeling more confident due to Zack’s counseling and her recent engagement, a determined Shelley decides she can put it off no longer and heads down to the bar area to open up her pub. The staff and regulars of the Rovers are surprised but pleased to see Shelley back where she rightly belongs. Is Shelley emotionally ready to begin her duties back behind the bar? How will she cope?

Meanwhile, when Craig refuses to accompany his grandfather Keith on a fishing trip, he decides to ask Audrey to go along with him instead. Keith is delighted when she accepts his offer of a day out but how will she react when she discovers Keith’s plans. Is the smitten fisherman angling to make Audrey his catch of the day?

Also in Weatherfield, when Adam rolls up on the street in a swanky new car, a shallow Candice suddenly regains interest in him, and Gail attempts to make amends for her recent behaviour when she asks Phil out for a meal.
