Anyone else watch the second test? What a climax - was like watching a penalty shootout over two hours! Englands win by two runs is the second narrowest in history. Did anyone see the banner in the crowd?:

"You say f-off. We say flintoff"

I don't think I can take anymore of this. What a match. Credit to the Aussies for never giving up, but England should have batted with their heads.

Roll on The Oval

i can't wait. watching today was so tense, it can't have been good for me! but i thought england were going to lose, the way shane warne was getting them out

Tori

Tori
29-08-2005, 10:05

Meh

Its probably Fred or Frederick

Jojo
29-08-2005, 23:41
Shane Waugh was bowling his socks off though - fair play to him, and none of them gave up. I thought we were going to lose all of our wickets with the 2 runs still remaining - I though we were done for once Flintoff was out. Lets just see if we can finally do it!!

Amz84
30-08-2005, 13:23
Flintoff's first name is Andrew.

Tori
30-08-2005, 19:01
yeah. he was bowling his sockes off. it seems success has come late on in his career though!

Rain has stopped play in the final Test of the Ashes series between England and Australia at The Oval ground in London.

England were finally all out for 373 runs on Friday morning, with Australian bowler Shane Warne taking six of the wickets. Play had started on Thursday.

Australia have started their innings, scoring 106 runs without losing a wicket before the rain came down.

If the bad weather continues, the match could finish in a draw, which would mean that England win the Ashes.

England lead the five-match series 2-1, and only need to avoid defeat to win an Ashes series for the first time in 18 years.

Tori
09-09-2005, 18:59

Well done to England they were brilliant especially Freddie Flintoff!!!

What's Glenn McGrath and the Aussies got to say now after predicting a 5-0 whitewash at the start

Jojo
13-09-2005, 12:30
Did anyone see GMTV this morning - they were talking about the Ashes and spoke to an Aussie journalist - apparently the Aussies are slating the ages of the team, and said that it was hardly surprising they didn't win and that the first sign of a problem should have been Shane Warnes bald spot!!!! He had a total of 40 wickets!! For an "old" guy, I don't think that was bad going really do you?! Sour Grapes.....

Tori
13-09-2005, 18:05
yeah, they don't do losing if you haven't guessed! one aussie guy was glad he didn't have any english friends, because apparently, we are celebrating too much!

Trinity
15-09-2005, 19:27
Yep well the SNP mentioned that fact in the Scottish parliment!

I am fine about the game being on Scottish TV, and I am fine about it being mentioned on the news - I mean great good job well done etc etc etc.

However, the coverage has been at saturation level now for days! There are more important things going on in the world!

Meh
15-09-2005, 23:00
The Ashes were just incredible and I reckon the English team deserve the coverage they are getting. Lets not forget, when the Aussies beat England they make it a national celebration as well. Pom bashing is common in Australia.

And there's Alan Border's words of wisdom as he handed over the captaincy: "You can do pretty much what you want. Just don't lose to the poms"

Trinity

There has been too much coverage on the news. N'Awlins, murders etc have been pushed back to make English crikcet the top story. Surely it should be covered in sports news, with a feel good piece at the end of the programme.

One thing to remember is that the national news is not the English news!

My husband loves watching cricket, and both my boys play as the local club is just round the corner from here. they enjoyed watching the game, but really the English (yes you lot) go totally OTT when ever you win anything.

we dont win that much so we have to make a fuss when we do! im not into cricket myself but that was a great achievement england winning the ashes. theyre better than the england football team at the moment anyway!

new orleans had loads of coverage, i mean for how many days can you watch the same pictures and be shown the same reporter talking to the same people?

and english people have the right to celebrate when we win something, im sure you scots would do the same

Tori
17-09-2005, 10:41
if they went mad on celebrations if we win the next ashes, then that ould be a little OTT, but the ashes areback with us!!

Yes, we would - but it wouldn't be shown on National TV! (Except maybe a 2 minute fell good piece at the end of the news)

Scottish = Scottish TV
English = National TV

No wonder people get fed up!

well, and i dont know much about this, but for the regional news, is there only one for the whole of scotland or lots of different ones, cos if they put the cricket on the regional news it would be the same thing on all the different ones across england and cos its not local news, thats prob why it was on the main one

Trinity
22-09-2005, 13:37
There are 3 or 4 regional tv stations in Scotland - Borders, Grampian, Scottish - I think that is all.

I think that your argument is one for a National Scottish news programme, campaigners call it the Scottish 6 - so that we can opt out of the BBC and ITV 'British' (read English) news.
