Deperate Housewives

Desperate Housewives bosses were forced to edit a scene in the hit show following the Pope John Paul II's death

In the episode, Marcia Cross' character Bree Van De Kamp's reference to Catholics was dubbed over by Abc chiefs, who believed the line would be inappropriate so soon after the Pontiff's demise on Saturday.

While attending the funeral of Eva Longoria's character Gabrielle Solis' mother-in-law, Bree mentions to Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman), "You have to hand it to the Catholics, they do grieve better than anyone."

On Friday (01APR05), as the Vatican announced the Pope's death was imminent, network executives took clips of Bree's voice saying "Gabby and Carlos", and inserted it into the space she originally said "Catholic".

The best quote from that episode, "I just want the same respect you give your dead mother - at least she has a roof over her head!"
