EastEnders dropped to an audience share of just 37% on Friday night, according to early figures.

The BBC soap averaged just 6.42 million viewers (36.8%) at 8pm, ranking as the third most-watched show of the day. Emmerdale pulled in almost 800,000 more viewers with an average of 7.19 million (45.9%) at 7pm, while Coronation Street had a relatively impressive 8.78 million (52.1%) for first place.

Big Brother had a particularly strong evening, pulling in audiences of 4.95 million (25.6%) and 6.1 million (30.1%) at 9pm and 10pm respectively.

Meanwhile, Roger Moore's first outing as James Bond in Live and Let Die drew a respectable 3.78 million (19.6%) between 8.30pm and 10.30pm.

E4's live streaming of Big Brother hit a peak of 823,000 (6%) between 9.30pm and 10pm for first place in multichannel homes.

ITV2's Tour de France coverage had 258,000 (2.4%) in the 7pm hour, ranking tenth, while on Sky One, Billy Zane adventure movie The Phantom entertained 205,000 (1.5%).
