Home and Away has announced some exciting news - it's releasing two books based on the Summer Bay soap.

The first book was released yesterday (December 16) as an eBook and was written to coincide with the well-received Braxton spin-off show, An Eye for an Eye.

Hachette Australia was behind the publishing of the first book and is now due to release a second in 2016.

Bosses are remaining tight-lipped over the content and name of the second book, but it is set to include explosive material and exclusive scenes that won't be shown on television.

The feature-length episode An Eye for an Eye was released on Australia's local streaming service Presto last week.

Following the success of the commission, Presto is now said to be looking at the possibility of adding more Home and Away spin-offs to its streaming roster.

Home and Away's British broadcaster Channel 5 has yet to confirm whether it plans to air the spinoff.

Home and Away Novels to Be Published in 2016

"Publishing empire Hachette Australia will be bringing fans a new way of enjoying Australia’s favourite drama in 2016, with two new novels to be published.

The first novel ties into the Home and Away special event, An Eye for an Eye, which launched on Presto on 9 December 2015, immediately following the conclusion of the season finale. It was exclusively released as an ebook in Australia on 16 December 2015 via iTunes, with a paperback edition planned to be made publicly available in the new year.

The second novel, which is currently untitled, will also be published later in 2016.

The news follows hot on the heels of the announcement that UK merchandising company, Licensing Link has inked a deal with the Seven Network to release Home and Away themed memorabilia for fans of the show.

The head of Fiction Publishing at Hachette Australia, Rebecca Saunders stated that this is a great way of fans, both old and new getting involved in the show, and being able to carry of the legacy of the characters, both past and present. “Home and Away has the country’s most devoted and passionate fans and Home and Away: An Eye for An Eye has been created and produced just for them by Seven Productions. Sophie (Green) has expertly adapted an incredibly moving, suspenseful story that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. The novel stands alone as a brilliant read even for viewers who haven’t yet seen the Presto episode.”

Author, Sophie Green said “As a huge Home and Away fan it was a privilege to be able to write about Summer Bay and to spend more time with characters who are so well known and loved. This book is certainly written from love for the show and with love for the fans.”

Seven Network’s licensing manager Kate Green added “Home and Away averages 1.345 million combined (metro and regional) viewers each night and is the number one show on Plus7 streams so this book offers the fans another opportunity to escape to Summer Bay while Home and Away takes its summer break.”

The novels will be promoted through Hachette Australia and Home and Away social channels, and will cost $4.99.

Home and Away returns to screens on Monday, February 1."
