Holby City star Bob Barrett has revealed that his character Sacha Levy will go to extreme lengths to help his ill daughter Rachel.

Rachel has been diagnosed with leukaemia and needs to undergo a bone marrow transplant. However, Sacha's wife Chrissie is reluctant for their young son Daniel to be tested.

Barrett told What's on TV: "Sacha loves Chrissie so much but they are not soulmates, they don't see eye-to-eye on stuff and they're very different.

"This situation involving Sacha's daughter Rachel, whose suffering from leukaemia, highlights why they're so different.

"To Sacha, family is family, no matter what. He's under duress and he has just one thing on his mind, which is to make Rachel better. It's all about being a good parent, being a good father."

Next week's episode of the hospital drama will see Sacha go behind Chrissie's back and order the blood test on their son.

Speaking about his character's decision, Barrett said: "Sacha would throw himself under a bus for his kids in a heartbeat. But, of course, what gets hurt in all this is his relationship with Chrissie. He's at risk of sacrificing his marriage for the sake of his child."

He continued: "Chrissie is Rachel's stepmother, but Daniel is her only son. And with everything she's been through in the past, suffering a stillbirth, this situation is very hard for her."

Barrett added that he hopes viewers will be able to emphasise with his character's decision.

He said: "I'm sure some will side with Chrissie, while others will side with Sacha.

"All I can ask, as an actor, is that people see the reason why Sacha wants to get Daniel tested - that he's so desperate for Rachel to live that he thinks it's a risk worth taking."
