Elizabeth Mitchell has joined the cast of JJ Abrams's new NBC drama Revolution.

Mitchell, best known to viewers as Dr Juliet Burke from Abrams's hugely successful Lost, has signed on as a series regular for the new sci-fi series, which was recently greenlit by the network.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Revolution is set in a world where every piece of technology, including cars, computers, phones and lights, has suddenly stopped working forever. The show follows a family as they attempt to reunite and navigate their way through this post-apocalyptic dystopia.

Mitchell will play Rachel Matheson, a terrified mother of two children. She takes over the role from Andrea Roth, who played Rachel in the original pilot.

Revolution will also feature Twilight's Billy Burke and Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito in key roles, and will be directed by Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau.

This will mark Mitchell's first recurring role in a television series since ABC's V reboot was cancelled in 2011, after playing Juliet on Lost for four seasons.

JJ Abrams's new US drama series Revolution has been given an air date by UK channel Sky1.

The post-apocalyptic sci-fi show will lift off on the station on Friday March 29th at 9pm with a pilot episode directed by Jon Favreau.

Despite a mixed critical response to its first season, the drama has proved a ratings hit for NBC in the US, where it is currently on a mid-term break.

Revolution centres on a post-apocalyptic America that has mysteriously lost all electrical power. It stars Billy Burke (Twilight), Tracy Spiridakos (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost).
