Home and Away producer Cameron Welsh (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrities/cameron-welsh/) has revealed that he has left the show.

The 34-year-old Australian actor, producer and director, who played Mitch McColl on the soap from 1999 until 2001 but then became series producer in 2007, took to his Twitter page (https://twitter.com/#!/Cam_Welsh) to tell his former cast and crew mates that he missed them as they returned to the set after the Christmas break.

Welsh wrote on the microblogging site: "Good luck to my #homeandaway mates back to work today. All the best for another great year, especially new producer Lucy and @Louise_Bowes (sic). Missing you guys already. BTW - water temp in Coogee is around the 22 mark."

When various fans expressed their shock and asked him to confirm if he had quit his role as producer, he wrote: "Yep, I have left Home and Away. The brilliant Lucy Addario is the new producer and @Louise_Bowes continues as script producer. Thanks for all the support and well wishes. Working on HAA was a privilege - best 12 yrs of my life! Thanks all. As for future...We'll see!"

Welsh's post was retweeted by Emily Symons (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrities/emily-symons/), who plays Marilyn Chambers in Home and Away. Lisa Gormley (http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/celebrities/lisa-gormley/), who is best known as Bianca Scott on the show, wrote back to him: "Miss you already big man! Have fun x."

Welsh has not yet revealed what his next television project will be. He has previously worked on All Saints and Blue Heelers
