From Digital Spy

BBC's decision to air Neighbours in a teatime-only slot lost the soap almost 2 million viewers last week.

According to figures obtained by Digital Spy, the Aussie soap averaged just 3.54 million viewers in its sole 5.35pm slot from Tuesday to Friday.

The lunchtime showing, which averaged 2.62 million the week before, had been dropped in favour of Royal Ascot coverage.

Only around 900,000 viewers switched to the teatime episode, which had averaged 2.64 million the week before.

The news means that some 1.7 million viewers - a third of the soap's UK audience - will have missed out on key episodes, including Boyd's commitment to the psychiatric ward, Stuart's restoration of sight and Izzy's reunion with Karl.

Neighbours is now completely off air for at least two weeks for Wimbledon.
