The BBC has announced that it will air a new forensic crime drama called The Body Farm.

The six-part series will star Tara Fitzgerald as her Waking The Dead character Dr. Eve Lockhart.

The show focuses on Eve and her team as they conduct scientific research at a private forensics facility to work out the best ways of solving crimes.

Police forces from around the world get in touch for help with difficult cases and the team start turning to police work themselves to help pay the bills.

The BBC's controller of drama series and serials Kate Harwood said: "Eve Lockhart is a powerful and brilliant character from Waking The Dead - compassionate but cool and committed, she searches for truth and justice in the darkest human experience. The Body Farm visually combines forensic and mortal elements in a cinematic, beautiful, surprising and arresting series."

Filming for The Body Farm will begin in the spring.

I'll be watching this for sure. It sounds very much like what happens at the body farm in Tennessee.

Several brief clips from BBC One's new crime series The Body Farm have been included in the BBC's latest 'Original British Drama' trailer of upcoming shows.

The Body Farm will star Keith Allen (Robin Hood) as Detective Inspector Hale alongside Tara Fitzgerald as her Waking The Dead character, pathologist Dr Eve Lockhart. Created by Declan Croghan, the six-part series will open with a 90-minute special and began filming this spring.

The one-minute promo aired for the first time on BBC One earlier this week and features ten seconds of footage from the series, including glimpses of Wunmi Mosaku (Moses Jones, Silent Witness) as Rosa, Mark Bazeley (The Bourne Ultimatum) as Mike and Finlay Robertson (How Not To Live Your Life) as Oggy.
