R&B group Destiny's Child have announced that they will split after their current 'Destiny Fulfilled...And Lovin' It Tour.'

Kelly Rowland informed a 16,000-strong crowd of fans at their gig in Barcelona that the date would be the group's final European appearance.

A statement to MTV News from the band yesterday read: "We have been working together as Destiny's Child since we were 9, and touring together since we were 14.

"After a lot of discussion and some deep soul searching, we realized that our current tour has given us the opportunity to leave Destiny's Child on a high note, united in our friendship and filled with an overwhelming gratitude for our music, our fans, and each other. After all these wonderful years working together, we realized that now is the time to pursue our personal goals and solo efforts in earnest. ... No matter what happens, we will always love each other as friends and sisters and will always support each other as artists.

We want to thank all of our fans for their incredible love and support and hope to see you all again as we continue fulfilling our destinies."

The US leg of the group's tour will go ahead as planned, starting at the Sawis Centre in St. Louis on July 9.

Reports that R&B group Destiny's Child are to split up after their autumn tour have been denied.
A spokeswoman for their record company, Sony/BMG, said it was "not true", adding group member Kelly Rowland did not make an announcement at a concert.

But she confirmed it could be some years before another album from the chart-toppers is released.

Rowland, Beyonce Knowles and Michelle Williams recently reformed after a three-year break from the group.

Greatest hits

Their comeback album, Destiny Fulfilled, made number one in the US and has sold 2.7m copies.

Their record company's spokeswoman said making another album rested with the members of the group, adding they had not yet come to a final decision about their future.

"I'm sure there will be a greatest hits album at some point," she said.

In the UK, Destiny's Child scored a string of hit singles from 1998 to 2001, including chart-toppers Independent Women and Survivor.

Beyonce Knowles has enjoyed the most successful solo career

The trio disbanded to make way for solo projects, with Beyonce Knowles' proving the most successful on both sides of the Atlantic.

Kelly Rowland sang the duet Dilemma with rap star Nelly, which also topped the charts in the US and UK.

But the threesome's comeback track Lose My Breath narrowly failed to become a UK number one, while their album stalled at five.

They are embarking on an extensive tour of North America, kicking off in New Orleans on 2 July, and finishing in Vancouver on 10 September.

In previous interviews, Destiny's Child have insisted they reformed because it was enjoyable - not because it was a shrewd business move.

"We did this record for ourselves, not to sell a million the first week out," Knowles told Billboard in an interview last year.

They have sold more than 50 million CDs worldwide, including solo releases, their record company said.

"We've been blessed with success and the greatest fans in the world," the group said.

"After a lot of discussion and some deep soul searching, we realised that our current tour has given us the opportunity to leave Destiny's Child on a high note.

They would be "united in our friendship and filled with an overwhelming gratitude for our music, our fans, and each other", they added.

"We want to thank all of our fans for their incredible love and support and hope to see you all again as we continue fulfilling our destinies."

Global stardom

Guided by Beyonce's father Matthew Knowles, the trio used a strong image and cutting-edge pop sound to shoot to global stardom.

They won two Grammy Awards for best R&B group performance for Say My Name in 2000 and Survivor in 2001.

Their greatest success came after an acrimonious change of personnel at the start of 2000, and the current trio took a break in 2002 to pursue solo projects.

Beyonce Knowles proved the most successful on both sides of the Atlantic with hits such as Crazy In Love with her boyfriend, rapper Jay-Z.

She has also won roles in films including Austin Powers in Goldmember and The Pink Panther.

Comeback

Kelly Rowland sang the duet Dilemma with rap star Nelly, which also topped the charts in the US and UK.

Their comeback album, Destiny Fulfilled, reached number one in the US at the end of 2004 and has sold 2.7 million copies.

Reports of their split were initially denied by the UK arm of their record company, Sony/BMG. In previous interviews, Destiny's Child insisted they reformed because it was enjoyable - not because it was a shrewd business move. "We did this record for ourselves, not to sell a million the first week out," Knowles told Billboard in an interview last year.
