James Nesbitt, Minnie Driver and Goran Visnjic have started filming on The Deep, a five-part thriller set thousands of feet below the Arctic ice for BBC One, shot in Scotland.

Simon Donald's scripted serial follows the crew of an oceanographic submarine as they search the final frontiers of Earth for unknown and remarkable life forms.

The thriller'saction follows the submarine's crew to the final frontiers of earth in their quest for unknown and remarkable life forms. Inexplicable circumstances then cause catastrophe to strike.

Stranded with no power, limited oxygen and no communication with the surface our crew reach crisis point. Can they stay alive long enough to uncover the mystery of something they have found themselves at the centre of?

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, said: "Simon Donald's brilliantly imagined serial The Deep demonstrates my commitment to bringing the best work by the best writers to BBC One and the international talent signed up are further testament to the quality of the scripts."

The series is currently filming at BBC Scotland's Dumbarton Studios in Glasgow for transmission next year.

It's a five-part series. I really enjoyed the first episode - very mysterious.

Can anyone tell me how last week's episode ended? My video decided to stop recording 5 minutes early. Did Clem die, or did he make it back to the mother ship? Thanks.

It certainly gave the impression that Clem died, but because it didn't show it, he could still be alive (somehow).

I don't think anything else happened after that.
