CLASSIC children's sport show We Are The Champions is set to return.
And Phoenix Nights' Paddy McGuinness will take on the frontman role made famous by Ron Pickering.

The show, which was also previously presented by Gary Lineker, will be dusted off for the Beeb's Sport Relief charity extravaganza next March.

The show was a mainstay of the schedules throughout the 1970s and 1980s but was axed in 1995.

The new five-part version will again pitch teams of children against one another in a bid to test their physical agility, tactics and teamwork.

Two of the five challenges will take place in a swimming pool while the others will be in a sporting arena.

Each one of the 12 teams from schools around the country will also have their own sporting celebrity as coach who will help push the kids to victory.

Executive producer Annette Williams said: "We are the Champions was the must-see sports programme for children growing up in the 1970s and 1980s.

"It's been revamped for the 21st century.

"The navy knickers and bean bags have gone. But this series will have all the adrenaline and excitement that you need."
